Michael Humphries QC and Hereward Phillpot are currently appearing for BAA Ltd and Stansted Airport Ltd at the planning inquiry into the next phase of Stansted Airport's growth. This project, known as Generation 1 (G1), seeks to vary two planning conditions so as to allow the airport's single runway capacity to rise from 25 million passengers per annum to 35 million passengers per annum. The proposals reflects Government Policy as set out in the Air Transport White Paper which urges airports to make full use of existing runway capacity in the South-East. The project is opposed by Uttlesford District Council and Stop Stansted Expansion. It is anticipated that an application will be made for a second runway at Stansted, the Generation 2 (G2) project, later this year.
