FTB congratulates Professor Áine Ryall of FTB’s Academic Panel upon her election as Chair of the Aarhus Convention Compliance Committee.  The Aarhus Convention is a multilateral agreement on access to environmental justice linking the environment and human rights.

The Compliance Committee is tasked with overseeing implementation of the Convention across 47 State Parties.  It comprises nine members with recognised expertise in international environmental law and human rights. The Committee sits at the Palais de Nations in Geneva.

Áine was first appointed to the Compliance Committee in 2015 and elected Vice-Chair in 2017 and was elected Chair unanimously at the end of 2021.

Professor Ryall is Co-Director of the Centre for Law and the Environment at University College Cork.  She co-chaired with Gregory Jones QC, the third FTB King’s College Kingsland Conference.  They are currently co-editing Aarhus Convention: Coming of Age?  - a volume based on the collected works of that conference.
