Chambers is delighted to support the London Sinfonietta’s programme Sound Out which is part of a wider programme of participation and learning.

Since the inception of its Participation and Learning programme in 1983, the London Sinfonietta has established a reputation as a pioneer in the field of orchestral music education and as a provider of innovative creative learning programmes. Today, the London Sinfonietta focuses on building strong relationships with schools and music services in under-served areas of Northeast London through its Sound Out programme, which provides high-quality performing and composing opportunities to pupils across Haringey, Enfield and Waltham Forest. In the past two years, the ensemble has involved more than 1,000 pupils in workshops at their own schools, and welcomed more than 5,000 pupils to schools concerts at the Southbank Centre.

Andrew Burke, Chief Executive & Artistic Director of London Sinfoniettta said, “We are delighted that Francis Taylor Building will be supporting our Sound Out programme for schools and youth ensembles.  The support we receive from companies enables us to do more in education and community settings at a time when such interventions are desperately needed.  Music is no longer on the curriculum for children, and a generation of young people will have had no chances to play, sing or experience the arts as a natural part of their lives.  Our work can’t reach everyone – but what we can do makes a case for changing policies for the future.  We are hugely grateful for any support we can secure that allows us to progress this part of our mission.”

The London Sinfonietta is the UK’s foremost contemporary music ensemble.  A resident orchestra at London’s Southbank Centre and an Artistic Associate at Kings Place, its mission is to realise a world-class programme of contemporary classical music to inspire and engage a worldwide audience; to support and develop new performing and composing talent for the wider sector; and to encourage and nurture musical creativity in young people both in London and around the UK.
