The Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities has granted planning permission for the erection of a 20 storey residential tower on the site of the former Edith Summerskill House, Clem Attlee Court, London SW6 7TW.  The proposal will provide 133 residential units, all of which would be affordable housing.

The proposal was described by the Secretary of State as being of ‘exemplary’ design and ‘an addition to the skyline of outstanding quality that would raise the bar for development in the area, and London generally’.  He concluded that the living conditions for prospective residents would be ‘excellent’.

Whilst the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham supported the application in its role as local planning authority, it was called in for determination by the Secretary of State following local opposition.

Hereward Phillpot QC appeared at the public inquiry on behalf of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
