In a decision letter dated 11 October 2019, ‘The Council of the City of Coventry (Coventry Station Warwick Road Car Park and Adjacent Land City Centre) Compulsory Purchase Order 2019’ (“the CPO”) has been confirmed without modifications.

The purpose of the CPO is to facilitate the comprehensive redevelopment of Coventry Railway Station and the surrounding area in accordance with the Coventry Station Masterplan.  The scheme is intended to substantially transform the capacity and experience of Coventry Station, enabling greater rail connectivity and patronage at Coventry, to the strategic employment opportunities at the adjacent Friargate, and more generally across the region.

In the shorter term, the scheme will make an important contribution to supporting and maximising the economic potential of Coventry’s imminent status as City of Culture for 2021.

Hereward Phillpot KC appeared on behalf of Coventry City Council, the acquiring authority.
