Planning Permission Granted for Replacement Pig Farm

Antrim and Newtownabbey last night resolved to grant planning permission for a replacement pig farm outside Ballyclare following a contested committee hearing.

The development was a “major development” under the  Planning (Development Management) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015.  It will involve the demolition of the existing pig farm,  and replacement with a modern pig farm with three new pig units to house an overall site capacity of 2,755 sows, 235 replacement breeders and 5 boars.

Conor Fegan represented the applicant,  JMW Farms, at the Planning Committee hearing.  He was instructed by Gavin McGill (MRTPI), Senior Planner at Clyde Shanks Limited.  He was assisted at the hearing by Shane Carr (Irwin Carr Consultancy) and Geoff Connell (Agrihand).
