High Court Grants Final Injunction to Transport for London against Insulate Britain Protesters

Following a two-day Trial, the High Court has granted a final injunction to TfL against Persons Unknown and 129 Named Defendants, all of whom have protested under the banner of ‘Insulate Britain’. The final injunction was granted for a period of 5 years, subject to any further Order before then.

The final injunction granted by Mr Justice Morris prevents, among other things, blocking the highway at over 30 locations which are particularly important to the TfL Road Network such as the Blackwall Tunnel, Tower Bridge, Westminster Bridge, and parts of the A1, A2, A3 A4, and A12.

The final injunction follows on from interim injunctions which had been renewed by the High Court in hearings a number of times, having originally been granted urgently and without notice in the autumn of 2021 when Insulate Britain first began their campaign of intentionally causing serious disruption on major roads (see here and here).

Andrew Fraser-Urquhart KC and Charles Forrest represented, at Trial and throughout the proceedings, the successful Claimant, Transport for London, and were instructed by Transport for London. They have also been acting for TfL in its related Claim against Just Stop Oil protesters (see here) in which judgment is expected in the near future.
