Professor Pavlos Eleftheriadis, a barrister at Francis Taylor Building and expert in planning and EU law was instructed by the Greek Wind Energy Association to advise in the law of maritime spatial plans, the law of state aid and the law of public procurement, with a view to proposing an optimal regulatory framework for offshore wind.

Professor Pavlos Eleftheriadis, a barrister at Francis Taylor Building and expert in planning and EU law was instructed by the Greek Wind Energy Association to advise in the law of maritime spatial plans, the law of state aid and the law of public procurement, with a view to proposing an optimal regulatory framework for offshore wind. 

Greece’s National Energy and Climate Plan provides for the development of at least 3GW of new wind energy until 2030. Wind Europe observes that the potential of offshore wind is excellent, given wind resource in the Aegean and other Greek seas (see Wind Europe, Offshore Wind is coming to Greece). Deep waters mean that the technology of choice is bound to be floating wind turbines. The project, which was funded by the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, involved an online workshop on ‘Offshore Wind Energy in Greece: Institutional Framework, Challenges and Perspectives 23 February, where government, industry stakeholders and academics discussed the challenges and possibilities of a new regulatory framework and where Pavlos Eleftheriadis chaired a session.
