Sarah has a growing specialist practice in Election Law which complements her broad Public Law practice. She has been involved in all of the leading election cases of the past year, ranging from local government to Parliamentary election petitions. She regularly advises political parties and other bodies on a range of election law issues including recounts, boundary changes and electoral reform
Sarah has acted in the following notable cases:
- Sarah represented the Claimant in the important challenge in the Court of Appeal to the Government’s pilots of voter ID requirements in R (oao Coughlan) v Minister for the Cabinet Office  EWCA Civ 723.
- In 2020, led by Gavin Millar QC, Sarah represented the successful respondent in the high profile election petition to the result of the Peterborough by-election brought by the Brexit party. (Green v Forbes  EWHC 676 (QB). This case establishes that the Court’s jurisdiction over an election petition does not end if Parliament was dissolved before the petition was determined.
- Sarah acted for the successful Respondent Labour MP, Stephen Timms, in striking out a Parliamentary election petition to the 2019 result for East Ham brought over allegations of canvassing at polling stations by tellers.
