Practice Profile

Daniel is a second six pupil who is now accepting instructions across all of Chambers’ core practice areas.

Daniel was supervised by Isabella Tafur KC in his first four months of pupillage, and is currently supervised by Caroline Daly. He has gained experience in planning, compulsory purchase and compensation, public law and local government law.

Before coming to the Bar, Daniel studied Law at the University of Oxford where he remained to complete the BCL. He then worked as a Judicial Assistant to Lady Justice Nicola Davies and as a paralegal.

Daniel has gained experience in a range of planning matters and has assisted in:

  • Drafting an advice on the prospects of success of an appeal against refusal of permission for a residential development on grounds of highway safety
  • Research on the time limit for appealing to the Secretary of State against non-determination for a residential development under s.78(2) TCPA 1990
  • Research on the extent to which new national SuDS guidance has been applied in decisions by PINS relating to residential developments
  • Research on the standing requirements for interveners and interested parties in applications for variation of s.187B injunctions

Daniel’s experience in Compulsory Purchase and Compensation includes:

  • Drafting a skeleton argument in Upper Tribunal proceedings for compensation following extinguishment of the claimant company
  • Drafting opening and closing submissions for a CPO inquiry relating to a London borough council regeneration scheme
  • Research on compensation in cases where access to retained land is affected by the scheme, including through the creation of ‘ransom land’
  • Research on the Upper Tribunal’s costs powers

Daniel’s experience in public law includes:

  • Drafting a summary of urgent legal advice relating to a decision to cancel a road widening scheme
  • Research on the substantive test applied to permissions to appeal against High Court decisions in s.289 appeals relating to enforcement notices
  • Research on the withdrawal of admissions made in statements of case under CPR Part 14

Daniel’s experience in local government includes:

  • Drafting an advice on the appropriation of land for planning purposes under s.122 Local Government Act 1972
  • Research on the duties and powers of highway authorities under the Highways Act 1980 relating to repair and removal of obstacles on highways
  • Research on the historical legislative provisions relating to appropriation of land by councils under s.122 Local Government Act 1972

On 22 December 2025, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (“DEFRA”) published its new ‘Animal welfare strategy for England’ (“the Strategy”). The Strategy begins by setting out its vision that “every animal will experience positive welfare throughout their life”.
