Two New Tenants: Armin Solimani and Gabriel Nelson

02 October, 2024

FTB is delighted to announce that Armin Solimani and Gabriel Nelson have both accepted invitations to join Chambers and become tenants today (2 October 2024) following successful completion of their pupillages.

Armin Solimani

During pupillage, Armin was supervised by Isabella Tafur, Richard Honey KC, and Hugh Flanagan.

He is currently instructed as junior counsel to Gregory Jones KC in the High Court, in a statutory challenge to the confirmation of a compulsory purchase order, and recently appeared as sole counsel for a Parish Council in a two-day planning appeal hearing. He has gained extensive experience appearing as sole counsel before the Magistrates’ Court and licensing sub-committees.

Before his call to the Bar, Armin served as the Judicial Assistant to Sir Keith Lindblom, the Senior President of Tribunals, at the Court of Appeal. Armin assisted exclusively with appeals concerning planning, environmental, and local government law, including some of the most significant such cases of recent years. He therefore benefits from an unusual depth of experience in relation to chambers’ practice areas for a junior of his call.

Armin is a member of the Attorney General’s ‘Junior’ Junior Scheme. He is also a member of PEBA’s Consultation Working Party and assisted with preparing their response to the government’s proposed changes to the NPPF.

Gabriel Nelson

During pupillage, Gabriel was supervised by Hugh Flanagan, Ned Westaway and Isabella Tafur. He welcomes instructions across all of Chambers’ practice areas. He has a particular interest in environmental law, having developed a broad knowledge of the area in his studies and work prior to joining chambers.

Gabriel’s recent experience includes successfully acting as sole counsel for a Rule 6 party at a three-day enforcement inquiry. He is currently instructed as sole counsel on behalf of a residents’ association in an ongoing High Court challenge to a local authority’s decision to allow the installation of telegraph poles in the area without conditions.

Gabriel has also assisted several members across Chambers’ areas of practice. This includes assisting Douglas Edwards KC in a matter concerning the tortious liability of a sewerage undertaker for discharges onto a highway; Ned Westaway in various judicial review claims including a challenge of the Government’s home insulation policy; and Isabella Tafur in relation to a statutory review of the Government’s decision to grant development consent for the UK’s first full-chain carbon capture and storage scheme.

In appropriate cases, Armin and Gabriel are happy to work on a pro-bono basis.

If you would like to discuss Armin's or Gabriel's experience, availability or fees, please contact Paul Coveney, Senior Clerk on 020 7427 1847.
