We are pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Gordon Anthony as an Academic Tenant and Dr Eloise Ellis and Dr Ciara Brennan as new members of Chambers’ Academic Panel.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Gordon Anthony as an Academic Tenant and Dr Eloise Ellis and Dr Ciara Brennan as new members of Chambers’ Academic Panel.

Gordon Anthony is Professor of Public Law in the School of Law, Queen’s University Belfast, and Director of Internationalisation in the School. Educated at Queen’s and the Academy of European Public Law, he has held visiting positions at institutions in Greece, Holland, France, Portugal, and the United States.  His main research interests are in the areas of judicial review, public authority liability, and the relationship between UK law and European law. He has published widely in these areas.  Gordon was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in 2011. He can be instructed through FTB to undertake advisory work and to appear in inquiries and tribunals in England and Wales and in the UK Supreme Court.

Dr Eloise Ellis is a Senior Lecturer at the University of East Anglia where she has taught public law and European law since 2011.  Dr Ellis is currently the Law School’s Director of Learning and Teaching. She is Visiting Professor at the University of Salzburg, the Institute of Law Jersey, the Université Catholique de Lille and the University of London (International Programmes).  She is also the co-convenor of the Society of Legal Scholars (SLS) Public Law section. Eloise’s research interests include constitutional reform and the constitutional structure of Government, with a particular focus on Parliamentary Select Committees.

Dr Ciara Brennan is a Lecturer at Newcastle University where she has taught Environmental Law at undergraduate and postgraduate levels since 2012. In June 2019, Ciara founded and launched the Environmental Justice Network Ireland (ENJI).  The focus of ENJI is to support communities and individuals that are engaged in promoting environmental justice on the island of Ireland.  Ciara’s research focuses on environmental justice, environmental rights, environmental governance, and specifically the enforcement of environmental law in Northern Ireland.

Chambers’ Academic Panel was established to foster closer links with the academic world, and to exchange ideas on developments of interest in planning, environmental, public and licensing law. Members of the panel provide an added dimension to the services we are able to offer clients and contribute to our seminar programme.  It now comprises ten members who are based in academic institutions in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Prof Anthony, Dr Ellis and Dr Brennan will be speaking on topical public law issues at a FTB webinar at 10am on Tuesday 15 September 2020, to be chaired by Richard Honey who co-ordinates the Academic Panel and heads the FTB public law practice group.
