The development involves a multi-user liquid bulk green energy terminal (the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project) located on the eastern side of the Port of Immingham, together with a hydrogen production facility (as associated development) to produce green hydrogen from imported ammonia.
The ammonia is to be produced using renewable energy at a facility in Saudi Arabia, and the green hydrogen that is produced in Immingham will replace the use of hydrocarbon fuels in the UK.
In addition to the import of ammonia, the terminal is also expected to be used for the import of CO2 for onwards transmission to carbon capture and storage.
Hereward Phillpot KC, instructed by Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, represented the applicant, Associated British Ports and the intended operator of the hydrogen production facility, Air Products.
