Planning, Public and Property Law Mentoring Scheme for Under-Represented Groups: 2024-2025

12 September, 2024

In 2021, Francis Taylor Building and four other planning, property and public law sets (Cornerstone Barristers, Field Court Chambers, Kings Chambers and Landmark Chambers) set up a mentoring scheme for underrepresented groups at the Bar.

Gatehouse Chambers, Falcon Chambers, 39 Essex Chambers No5 Cambers have also since joined the scheme, which we are pleased to say will run for a fourth year. It is supported by the Planning and Environment Bar Association. It is intended to encourage undergraduates and postgraduates from groups that are not well represented at the Bar to consider becoming barristers. These underrepresented groups include women, people from minority ethnic backgrounds and people from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.

The Bar should be open to all who have the requisite ability, and we hope that the mentoring scheme will continue to help talented individuals who might not think the Bar is for them to understand what the Bar has to offer and how to become a barrister, and to assist in the application process.

The scheme will run from October 2024 to June 2025. Successful applicants will be offered one-to-one meetings with a mentor, a workshop on applications for pupillage and a social event with mentors and other mentees.

How to Apply

Guidelines for applicants can be found here and the application form here.  The application deadline is midnight on Friday 11 October 2024.
