This year, Leo Charalambides received the award. In presenting the award on behalf of the NTIA, Mike Kill said
"Tonight, we recognise Leo Charalambides, a barrister whose unwavering commitment over the last five years has profoundly impacted countless businesses facing legal challenges. Leo’s selfless support has been invaluable, offering free advice to those who cannot afford legal costs and tirelessly backing the NTIA and its members. His dedication goes far beyond business - however, Leo has long been a fierce advocate for the queer community and played a pivotal role within the SEV space. His support for sex-positive environments has reshaped the landscape for these communities across the UK. This Ambassador of the Night Award is truly deserved."
Leo is a specialist licensing practitioner and advises and represents a wide range of operators, local authorities, police authorities and residents across all aspects of licensing law (Licensing Act 2003, Gambling Act 2005, Sex Establishments, Markets, Street Trading, Pavement Licensing Special Treatments, Busking, Caravans, HMOs, scrap metal and animal licensing) and associated areas (in particular the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Highways Act 1980). In 2012 he was made a fellow of the Institute of Licensing in recognition of his work on the Journal of Licensing, his contribution to London Region and his wider contribution to the world of licensing.
The NTIA is a leading UK based organisation that represents and advocates for the night time economy. It focuses on issues such as licensing, safety, transport and the overall impact of the night time economy on the UK including economic growth and tourism.
