The Lord Bishop of Manchester, the Rt Rev. David Stuart Walker, has appointed Gregory Jones KC to be Chancellor of the Diocese of Manchester. Gregory has been the Deputy Chancellor since 2019 and succeeds Geoffrey Tattersall KC.
The Chancellor is the judge of the consistory court of the diocese, which rules on matters of ecclesiastical law, chiefly concerning changes to church buildings. The Chancellor is also the Vicar General, with overall responsibility for marriage licences and certain other Diocesan business. This is a part-time role, and Gregory continues his practice in Chambers.
