Cornish Solar Farm Granted Permission on Appeal

20 March, 2026

A planning inspector, Mr R E Jones BSc (Hons) DipTP MRTPI, has allowed an appeal by Speedwell Solar Farm Ltd against the refusal of planning permission by Cornwall Council for a 40MW solar farm on land at Lanyon Farm, Gwinear, Cornwall (Ref: APP/D0840/W/25/3370949).

In a decision letter dated 19 March 2026 the Inspector found that the less than substantial harm that would be caused to the significance of the nearby historic farmstead comprising the Grade II* listed Lanyon Farmhouse and Grade II listed barns and cart shed would be outweighed by the “very considerable and weighty” public and planning benefits associated with the scheme.

Hereward Phillpot KC appeared on behalf of the appellant at the hearing into the appeal.
