New Supreme Court - Approvals Upheld

planning permission and listed building consent for works to the Grade II* listed Middlesex Guildhall in Parliament Square. Those works were required to enable the building to accommodate the new Supreme Court, which is to replace the House of Lords as the United Kingdom's highest court. The decision had been challenged in an application for judicial review was dealt with by the High Court on an expedited basis in view of the importance and urgency of the matter. Keith Lindblom QC and Hereward Phillpot represented the Lord Chancellor in the successful defence of the City Council's decision.
