Oldham Resident Victory Over Pathfinder Scheme
Sir Michael Harrison in Mortell v. Oldham MBC has quashed three planning permissions granted by Oldham MBC to facilitate pathfinder CPO's and demolition of historic terraced housing in Oldham. Read more

New Supreme Court - Approvals Upheld
planning permission and listed building consent for works to the Grade II* listed Middlesex Guildhall in Parliament Square. Those works were required to enable the building to accommodate the new Supreme Court, which is to replace the House of Lords as the United Kingdom's highest court. Read more

Hereward Phillpot Appointed to B Panel
On 12th February 2007, Hereward Phillpot was appointed Junior Counsel to the Crown on the Attorney General's London B panel. The appointment is for a period of 5 years. Read more

Redevelopment of Newport City Centre Gets Go Ahead
On 30 March 2007 the National Assembly for Wales confirmed (subject to agreed modifications) the Newport City Centre (Redevelopment of John Frost Square) Compulsory Purchase Order 2006, rejecting in particular the objection of Iceland Foods Limited that the scheme should be revised to retain one of their stores. Confirmation of District Centre CPO
On 1 March 2007 the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government confirmed (with an agreed modification) the extensive City of Manchester (Cheetham District Centre) CPO 2006, the third in a series of regeneration CPOs (under s.226 of the TCPA 1990, as amended) in the inner area surrounding the city centre of Manchester where Charles George QC has represented the acquiring authority, Manchester City Council. Olympic Applications Made
Robin Purchas QC and Andrew Tait QC have been advising the Olympic Delivery Authority on the preparation and making of the planning and other applications for the Olympics development at East London. The applications were successfully made on 9th February 2007. Read more

Milford Haven to Aberdulais Gas Pipeline
On 12 February 2007 the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (in an unusually short ten-line decision letter) confirmed without modification the three compulsory purchase orders concerning contested parts of the 120 km route of a new high pressure gas pipeline to connect new LNG terminals at Milford Haven with the National Transmission System.
