FTB Environmental Law Blog Welcomes New Members of the Editorial Board

Happy New Year from FTB’s Environmental Law Blog! We are delighted to announce two new members of the Editorial Board – Dr Richard Caddell and Claire Nevin, whose biographies are provided below.

The blog has been very successful since its launch in late April 2021, both in terms of the nature of the contributions but also the reach of the blog – for example, it has been cited in a debate in the House of Lords.

Posts have covered a wide range of topics in the environmental field, from recent case law on climate change, environmental assessment and environmental rights to the role of mediation in statutory nuisance claims as well as the finer details of the enactment and implementation of the Environment Act 2021, Levelling-Up and Regeneration Act 2023, and developments in marine environmental law. Posts vary in length but aim to provide a succinct and clear summary of the subject matter of the post as well as an analysis of its relevance for practitioners.

Posts are published on a roughly weekly basis. You can subscribe to the blog here.

Dr Richard Caddell is a member of FTB’s Academic Panel and a Reader in Marine and Environmental Law at Cardiff University. His primary research interests lie in the law of the sea and environmental law, with a particular emphasis on wildlife conservation law, fisheries management, marine mammals, Polar law and marine environmental law at the international, EU, UK and devolved levels.

Claire Nevin is a barrister at Francis Taylor Building specialising in planning and environmental law. Before coming to the Bar, Claire worked in the field of human rights law and diplomacy for eight years. She is a regular contributor to ELB and has written posts on a variety of topics including the Irish Citizen’s Assembly on Biodiversity Loss, regulation of “forever chemicals” and the role of advisory opinions of international courts in climate change cases.
